About VINAG 1847
Located in the very heart of Maribor, Vinag is one of the largest and oldest classical wine cellars in Europe. With a rich tradition of winemaking, winery craftsmanship, and wine trade, Vinag has been shaping Maribor’s wine story for generations. The cellar spans over 20,000 m² and stretches across 2 kilometers of underground tunnels beneath the city.
Vinag’s winemaking tradition dates back to 1847, when the nobleman Alojz Kreihuber from Melje began cultivating vines and built a wine cellar dedicated to this purpose. Today, this historic setting invites visitors to discover the elegance of refined wine culture through carefully selected wines and unforgettable experiences.
After World War II, Vinag was expanded by connecting it with an even older brewery cellar, forming the largest classical tunnel wine cellar in Central Europe beneath a city center. Throughout its long and eventful history, the cellar has endured numerous historical changes and owners. At its peak, Vinag stood among the largest wine producers and exporters in the former Republic of Yugoslavia.
One of Vinag’s greatest treasures is its exceptional wine archive, home to over 85,000 bottles of premium archival wines. These rare vintages are ideal for celebrating birthdays, anniversaries, achievements, and life’s most meaningful moments. With the guidance of a wine expert, you can select a wine that perfectly matches your taste and commemorates a special year. A Vinag vintage wine is not just a gift—it is a timeless experience to share with yourself or those you cherish most.
Customers can choose from several wine lines, including the Kriehuber Line, HORECA Line, Line 23, Noble Line, and Cuvée Line.
SPARKLING WINE - CHARDONNAY BRUT
Brilliant golden-yellow color with fine, persistent bubbles.
The aroma is intense and reveals the charm of a Chardonnay produced using the traditional method. Notes of ripe yellow apples, a hint of tropical fruit, and candied lemon are followed by delicate impressions of almond blossom, intertwined with butter and vanilla cream. Subtle nuances of puff pastry and a gentle hint of white bread crust complete the bouquet.
This bone-dry sparkling wine offers a refined softness, vibrant freshness, and a subtle saline minerality. Its fine bubbles create a creamy mouthfeel. Medium-bodied and elegant, it delivers an intense yet balanced profile with a long, expressive finish, where citrus and fruit notes intertwine beautifully with hints of cream and marzipan.
Food pairing:
Raw fish dishes, sea bass carpaccio, shrimp, veal, and young cow’s milk cheeses.

Awarded a Gold Medal at a prestigious wine competition in London in October 2025.
ROSE
Medium-deep rosé color.
The aroma is youthful and juicy, offering intense notes of ripe berries, stewed fruit, and cranberries, with a subtle spicy finish.
The wine is soft, slightly sweeter, and light-bodied, with a fresh character and a pleasantly silky, slightly oily texture. It has a medium-long finish marked by flavors of peach and raspberry.
